The overproduction of 2,4-DTBP accompanying to the lack of available form of phosphorus during the biodegradative utilization of aminophosphonates by…

2014

Although information about the ability of some filamentous fungi to biodegrade organophosphonates is available, the knowledge about accompanying changes in fungal metabolism is very limited. The aim of our study was to determine the utilization of the chosen, structurally diverse aminophosphonates by Aspergillus terreus (Thom), in the context of the behaviour of this fungus while growing in unfavourable conditions, namely the lack of easily available phosphates. We found that all the studied compounds were utilized by fungus as nutritive sources of phosphorus, however, their effect on the production of fungal biomass depended on their structure. We also observed an interesting change in the…

Nuevos fármacos inspirados en Annonáceas

2014

Active secondary metabolites (ASM) play a highly significant role in the drug…

Investigation of fungicidal activity of 3-piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) and its boronic acid analogue

2014

3-Piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) and its bis(phenylboronic acid) analogue were investigated in terms of their fungicidal activity. The study was carried out against five filamentous fungi: Aspergillus terreus, Fusarium dimerum, Fusarium solani, Penicillium ochrochloron and Aspergillus niger. 3-Piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) revealed higher inhibitory activity towards the examined strains than standard antibiotic (amphotericin B), whereas bis(phenylboronic acid) proved to be inactive. The study unequivocally showed that the presence of the heterocyclic benzoxaborole system is essential for antifungal action of the examined compounds. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Production of a a-L-Rhamnosidase from Aspergillus Terreus Using Citrus Solid Waste as Inducer for Application in Juice Industry

2012

Naringinase is an enzyme complex consisting of a a-L-rhamnopyranosidase (Rha, EC. 3.2.1.40) and ß-D-glucopyranosidase (ßG, EC. 3.2.1.21). a-L-rhamnopyranosidase is an enzyme of considerable importance in food technology for increasing the aroma of fruit juices and alcoholic beverages. It is particularly used for debittering of citrus-juice by the hydrolysis of naringin and hesperidin, however this activity is low in commercial enzyme preparations. The aim of this work is the production of Rha from Aspergillus terreus fermentation using citrus solid waste (CSW), called “pastazzo”, as specific inducer. CSW is rich in fermentable materials such as sugars, in particular rhamnose, in pectins, an…

Fungal Necrotizing Scleritis After Intravitreal Injection Therapy

2020

PURPOSE To report a case of infectious necrotizing scleritis secondary to Aspergillus terreus after intravitreal injection therapy. METHODS This is a case report with literature review. RESULTS A 98-year-old woman receiving intravitreal aflibercept injections for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in the left eye presented with severe pain, redness, and purulent discharge at the injection site. She was initially treated with topical fortified antibiotics, and clinical improvement was achieved, although microbial cultures showed negative results. Two months later, she presented with severe ocular pain and was diagnosed with anterior necrotizing scleritis. Scleral scrapings were col…
